Commissioner Update – September 20, 2022

Short meeting today! Today’s meeting began with the Invocation and Pledge followed by the approval of the Consent Agenda. We then presented Proclamations for Constitution Week, International Underground Railroad Month, and National Senior Activity Center Month.

Next we heard a presentation on the upcoming County Fair and presented a Proclamation in honor of its 75th anniversary. The fair begins this Thursday and runs through Sunday, 22-25 September. Hope to see you there!

Moving into County Administrator time, our first item of business was review of upcoming meeting agendas. Second we approved the grant award for the FY2023 Police Recruitment and Retention grant for $29,952—no county match required. Third we approved a budget amendment for $29,999 for the Piney Point Museum Shore Erosion project to relocate stone riprap to help with the shoreline erosion. Our final item of business was approval of reallocation of bond funds from completed projects—we reallocated $231,264 in unused funds from the Leonardtown Library/Garvey Senior Center project to the Airport Improvements.

During Commissioner Time I spoke about the Academy for Excellence in Local Governance, the new clock in our Commissioner’s Meeting Room (a gift from the Estonian delegation that visited our county—it is set on Estonian time) and the upcoming County Fair.

This afternoon we will attend the State of the County luncheon hosted by the Chamber of Commerce.
