October 26, 2021 Commissioner Update:
Today’s meeting schedule was a little different from our normal order of operations. We started off this morning with our Joint Meeting with the Commanding Officer of Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Captain John Brabazon. We discussed the Intergovernmental Support Agreement, Recreational Collaboration, the Comprehensive Plan Update, the Aeropark Innovation District, and the Mattapany Rural Legacy Expansion Project.
After our meeting with Captain Brabazon and his team we entered into Closed Session to discuss Litigation, Real Property and Personnel.
We reconvened at 1 pm for our regular business meeting and began with the Invocation and Pledge, followed by the approval of the Consent Agenda. The Consent Agenda included letters to Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile requesting increased cellular service in the Fairgrounds area.
We then moved immediately into County Administrator time and our first item was review of upcoming meeting agendas. Second we approved the Deer and Waterfowl Cooperative Wildlife Management Agreements with the Department of Natural Resources for Myrtle Point Park. Third we approved a mid-year hire of the Animal Shelter Manager position in preparation for the new Animal Shelter being completed. Fourth we received an update on EMS Staffing, including an update on EMS Billing. We have submitted bills for $897,500 and received $12,925 in payments since July 1. Our final item of business was a discussion on the 2021 Employee Satisfaction Survey Results.
Next we received a brief and had a discussion with the Maryland Department of Transportation as part of their Consolidated Transportation Tour.
We finished the day with Commissioner Time. I briefly discussed why I wore a mask during the meeting today (we have an immune compromised family member coming to visit and she requested the extra precautions), the increase in Atlantic Broadband costs, and Opioid Litigation. Commissioner Hewitt started to speak about Commissioner Redistricting, but there was some disagreement about what is proper to comment on during Commissioner Time. There will be five public hearings starting in November for all citizens to comment on the proposed map.
