Commissioner Update – May 3, 2022

Today’s meeting started off with the Invocation and Pledge followed by approval of the Consent Agenda. We then presented the following four proclamations:

  • National Drug Court Month
  • National Nurses Week
  • Nation Skilled Nursing Care Week
  • Small Business Month

We also presented a Commendation to Sergeant Todd Fleenor in recognition of his retirement after 21 years with the Sheriff’s Office—thank you for your service!

We had one Main Agenda item today; we approved a Public Hearing to change the zoning from Rural Preservation to Rural Commerce for 26470 Three Notch Road Mechanicsville. This will be a morning hearing on Tuesday, May 24th.

We had two items for County Administrator time. First, we reviewed upcoming meeting agendas. Second we heard a presentation on the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems (AUVSI) Student Unmanned Aerial Systems (SUAS) Competition. This competition has been held at Webster Field since 2002 but this year it will be held at the St. Mary’s County Regional Airport. There will be 70 teams competing and the competition will take place Thursday, June 16th through Saturday, June 18th—definitely check it out if you are able, it will be a fun event!

After Commissioner Time we entered into Closed Session to discuss Boards, Committees and Commissions. This afternoon we will attend the annual Law Enforcement Appreciation Day Ceremony.

Have a great week!
