This afternoon we held a joint virtual meeting with the Commissioner Boards from Calvert and Charles’ counties. We had a good agenda and discussion.
We began with an update on the St. Mary’s County Animal Shelter because of the partnership for the Tri-County Animal Shelter that will be ending later this year. Next we discussed the implementation on the Police Accountability Boards for each of the counties and it was good to hear the perspective of our neighboring counties. After that we discussed EMS Mutual Aid and the other counties were appreciative of the strides that St. Mary’s County has taken to improve the situation and support our systems. We also discussed State Legislation and potential impacts on our region–we are all in 100% agreement in our opposition of Senator Ellis’ bill to split up the College of Southern Maryland.
Our final topic of discussion was mental health and suicide. We all agreed to send a joint letter to the State requesting improved safety on our bridges with the hopes of preventing suicides.
These joint meetings are not common, but they are beneficial and help to keep us, as a region, working together and ensure our voices are heard and progress is made.
