Commissioner President Guy was out of town today, so as the current Vice-President of the Board of Commissioners, I chaired the meeting. We started our meeting with the Invocation and Pledge, followed by the approval of the Consent Agenda.
Next we presented Proclamations for Black History Month and Dating Violence Prevention Month. Thank you to all who attended, including members of our Commission for Human Relations and Commission for Women.
We had one Main Agenda item today, a brief from Library Director Michael Blackwell on the status of St. Mary’s County Libraries. We had a good discussion about some of the challenges and needs of our libraries.
Moving into County Administrator time, our first item of business was review of upcoming meeting agendas. Second we approved the Board of Education’s request for a budget amendment increasing the restricted fund budget by $180,027 for a School Safety Grant for Leonardtown Elementary and Hollywood Elementary. Third we approved a Program Open Space Acquisition Application for $511,500 to cover the full cost of purchasing the 8.09 acres of property that we approved last week. Our final item of County Administrator business was acceptance of Juniper Street(in Wildewood) into the County Road System. As part of this process we approve a stop sign and a speed limit of 25 mph.
After that we entered into our Legislative Updates time for a briefing on actions being taken by the Maryland General Assembly. We approved letters of support for the following bills:
During Commissioner Time I thanked Commissioner Guy for giving me the opportunity to chair the meeting today, I recognized the work done by some of our Recreation and Parks employees, and I spoke briefly about some of the legislation moving through Annapolis.
We ended the meeting by going into Closed Session to discuss Personnel. Have a great week!
