Today’s meeting started off with the Invocation and Pledge followed by the approval of the Consent Agenda. The Consent Agenda included a letter of support on behalf of the Institute of Maritime History to the Maryland Historical Trust for their “Lord Dunmore Project” and a letter of support for the reappointment of Stacy Clements to the Patuxent River Commission. After that we presented proclamations for National Recovery Month and National Suicide Prevention Month.
We then adjourned as the Board of Commissioners and reconvened as the Board of Health for a presentation from Dr. Brewster. She updated us on the status of COVID and MonkeyPox and other Health Department initiatives. We then reconvened as the Board of Commissioners.
Moving into County Administrator time, our first item was review of upcoming meeting agendas—we will not have a meeting next week. Second we approved the Annual Equitable Sharing Agreement and Certification for FY2022 for the Sheriff’s Office—this allows for Federally Forfeited Funds to be shared with local law enforcement; there were no funds last year. Third we approved a budget amendment for $156,000 for repair of the STS Bus Facility concrete slab. Our last item of business was a presentation on the Excise Tax Study Plan of Action. The Maryland General Assembly has approved the repeal of the St. Mary’s County Impact Fee and adoption of an Excise Tax to be implemented July 1, 2023. This study will identify important data in order to determine the correct Excise Tax and provide opportunities for public input.
After our Commissioner Time we entered into Closed Session to discuss Real Property.
This afternoon we will hold a Ribbon Cutting ceremony at 2pm for the new St. Mary’s County Animal Adoption and Resource Center. All are welcome to attend!
