Commissioner Update – November 15, 2022

We began our meeting this morning with my leading of the Invocation and Pledge, followed by the approval of the Consent Agenda.

After that we held a recognition ceremony for our Citizen’s Academy graduates. Thank you all for participating in this great program to learn more about your local government! We also presented proclamations for the Great American Smokeout and Giving Tuesday.

We were slightly ahead of schedule and jumped around in our agenda to our County Administrator item on the STS Public Safety Plan. After some good discussion we approved the Public Transportation Agency Safety Plan—this is reviewed every year and submitted to the Maryland Department of Transportation.

Next we held a Public Hearing for the Comprehensive Solid Waste Management and Recycling Plan Update. We had one speaker who was appreciative of these efforts.

Our one Main Agenda item was approval of the revisions/updates from the St. Mary’s County Public Ethics Ordinance. These were updates that were passed down from the state.

Moving into County Administrator time, our first item of business was review of upcoming meeting agendas. Second we approved a Restricted Fund Budget Increase for the Board of Education for Apprenticeship Maryland Program for $150,000. These funds are being provided to our school system by The Patuxent Partnership. Third we approved an Option Contract for $75,208 with Patuxent Corporate Center, LLC for two parcels of land for FDR Blvd Phase 3B. Fourth we approved the Senior Care grant award for $162,235 (with $5,826 of Additional County funding). Our final item of business was approval of an Addendum to the Leonardtown Library Lease Agreement—this formalizes the space that the library occupies (23,070 feet) and the share of the utilities that the library is responsible for paying (57%).

During Commissioner Time I spoke about recent events, including the Hollywood Volunteer Rescue Squad and Bay District Fire Department’s Installation of Officers and the Election. We finished the morning in Closed Session to discuss Litigation.

No commissioner meeting next week, have a great Thanksgiving!
